Summary
This is a famous adventure story from the Middle East. 📖🏺 was a poor woodcutter. 🪓 He lived in Persia with his wife, Nasreen. 👫
One day, Ali Baba was working in the woods. 🌳 He saw forty men on forty black horses. 🐎 They stopped near a huge rock. 🪨 The men had forty big, heavy sacks on their backs. 💰 A tall man walked to the rock and said, “Open sesame.” 🗣️ The rock opened! 😲 Behind the rock was a cave. 🕳️ The forty men went inside with their sacks. Later, they came out without the sacks. The tall man said, “Close sesame,” and the rock closed. 🪨
After the men left, Ali Baba went to the rock. He said, “Open sesame,” and the rock opened. 🪨✨ Inside the cave, there were hundreds of sacks and wooden boxes. 📦💰 He opened a sack — it was full of diamonds. 💎 He opened another sack — it was full of gold coins. 🪙 He opened a box — it was full of silver. 🥈 He opened another box — it was full of beautiful jewels. 💍 “These forty men are thieves,” thought Ali. 🥷 He took some gold coins and went home. 🏠
Ali Baba told his wife Nasreen about the treasure. 💰 She was very happy. 😊 “Can we buy a new house and new clothes?” she asked. 🏡👗 “Yes, but we mustn’t tell anyone,” said Ali. 🤫 “The forty thieves are very dangerous men.” ⚠️
But Ali’s brother, Kassim, was outside the kitchen. 👂 He heard everything. He opened the door and shouted, “Tell me where the cave is!” 😠 Ali told him about the rock and the words. 🗣️
Kassim went to the rock. He said, “Open sesame,” and went inside. 🪨 He filled three big sacks with gold, silver, and jewels. 💰💰💰 But when he wanted to leave, he forgot the words. 😰 He said, “Open wheat.” ❌ “Open corn.” ❌ The rock did not open. The thieves came back and found him. 🥷 “He must die!” said the tall man. ⚔️
The next morning, Kassim’s wife, Zeila, asked Ali where Kassim was. 😟 Ali went to the cave and found his brother hurt on the floor. 🤕 He took him home. The doctor came at night. 🩺
The thieves went back to the cave. “He isn’t here,” said the tall man. 😡 “We must find him.” The tall man found the doctor’s house. He said, “Take me to the house you visited last night.” 🏠 That night, the doctor took the tall man to Ali’s house. The tall man painted a white cross on the door. ❌🚪 “Now I know where they live,” he thought. “They must all die.” ☠️
The tall man bought thirty-nine big oil pots. 🛢️ He told his men to hide inside the pots. 🥷 Then he went to Ali Baba’s house. He said, “Good evening. I’m an oil merchant from India. I’m very tired. Can I sleep here?” 😴 Ali said, “Of course. Welcome to my home.” 🏠
Zeila was in the kitchen with Nasreen. 👩🍳 “That man isn’t Indian. He’s Persian,” said Zeila. 🤨 “I don’t like him. Let’s look at the pots on his horses.” 🐎 They went into the garden. 🌙 It was very quiet. Suddenly, they heard a man’s voice from a pot: “When are we going to kill Cassim and Ali Baba and their wives?” 😱 Another voice said, “When they’re asleep.” 😴
The women looked at the pots. Thirty-nine pots in the garden. 🛢️ Thirty-nine men in the pots. One man in the house. The forty thieves! 🥷 “Quickly,” said Zeila. “Open the gate!” 🚪 Nasreen opened the gate. “Shoo! Shoo! Go away!” they shouted at the horses. 🐎👋 The horses ran out of the garden and into the desert. 🏜️ They never came back. 🐎💨
The tall man went into the garden when everyone was sleeping. 😴 His horses weren’t there. His pots weren’t there. His men weren’t there. 😲 He ran out of the garden and into the desert. 🏜️ He ran and ran and never came back. 🏃♂️💨
In the morning, Kassim and Ali Baba woke up and went into the garden. 🌅 “This is very strange,” said Ali. 🤔 “The oil merchant isn’t here.” “You men are very silly,” said Nasreen. 😄 “The oil merchant from India wasn’t an oil merchant from India. He was the leader of the forty thieves.” 🥷
The next day, Kassim and Ali Baba went back to the rock with ten gray donkeys. 🫏 They said, “Open sesame,” and took all the treasure. 💰 They went back to the village and gave the treasure to the poor villagers. 🎁 “Thank you, Nasreen and Zeila,” said the villagers. 🙏 “You’re very clever women.” 🧠✨
