Summary

This is a dark story by Edgar Allan Poe. 📖🖤 The narrator is a man named Montresor. He has a friend named Fortunato. But Montresor does not really like Fortunato. 😠 In fact, he hates him. 💢 Fortunato hurt him many times in the past. 😢 Montresor never showed his anger. He smiled at Fortunato, but inside he wanted revenge. 😏🔪

One evening during carnival season, 🎭 Montresor meets Fortunato on the street. Fortunato is drunk. 🍷😵 He is wearing a colorful costume with bells on his hat. 🎩🔔 Montresor tells him he bought a rare wine called Amontillado. 🍾 He says he is not sure if it is real. 🤔 He says he will ask another man, Luchesi, to taste it. Fortunato says Luchesi knows nothing about wine. 🙄 He wants to taste it himself. 😤

Montresor takes Fortunato to his family palace. 🏰 They go down into the dark, cold cellars under the building. 🕯️⬇️ There are tombs and bones there. 💀🦴 Fortunato coughs because of the cold and damp air. 🤧 Montresor tells him to go back, but Fortunato says no. 🙅‍♂️

They go deeper and deeper. 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️ Finally they reach a small room. 🚪 There are iron handcuffs on the wall. ⛓️ Montresor quickly chains Fortunato to the wall. 😱 Then he takes stones and cement from under a pile of bones. 🪨🧱 He starts to build a wall in the doorway. 🧱🔨 He blocks Fortunato inside. 😨

Fortunato screams and shakes the chains. 😫⛓️ Then he laughs and thinks it is a joke. 😂 He asks Montresor to let him go. 🙏 But Montresor does not answer. 🤐 He finishes the wall. 🧱✅ He puts the last stone in place. 🪨 He pushes the bones in front of the new wall. 💀

The narrator says this happened fifty years ago. ⏳ No one has touched the bones since then. 🦴🚫 He says, “May he rest in peace.” ⚰️🕊️
